Installing your Brother Printer

In this article, we will show you how to install your Brother Printer. These instructions apply for all Brother QL Series printers. The example used in the screenshots for this article is a Brother QL-720NW.

There are 2 steps to setting up printing using a Brother Printer:

  1. Install the Brother Printer on the Receptionist’s PC or Kiosk as per the Manufacturer’s Instructions.
  2. Set the Printer Preferences, from the Devices and Printers section of the Control Panel, to match those of the Badge Pass Template you set up.

Each step should only take you a couple of minutes. After doing this you should refer back to the Getting Started Printing Guide on the next steps.

Please Note: You still need to follow these steps if using an iPad Kiosk with a Brother Printer less than the QL-820NWB which does not require Step 2.

Step 1

Install your Brother on the Wi-Fi network or via hardwire by following the install guide that came with the printer. You can download the latest drivers from the Brother website.

Please Note: If you are installing it for an iPad, this must be done on the same Wi-Fi network as the iPad Kiosk will connect to. We also support Direct Brother Printing with the IP Address  or Bluetooth should you have restrictions in place.

Step 2

  1. You need to set the Brother Printer preferences to match those of the Badge Pass Template you setup.
  2. Go to the Control Panel.
  3. Within the Control Panel select Devices and Printers

Please Note: If you are using the #VBRT3 label, you will need to allow extra space for the expiry tab. Please set the label length to 100mm or 3.9”.
  7. Set Orientation to Landscape
  8. Set Quality to: 300 x 600 dpi
  9. Enable Options to Cut at Every ‘1’ and Cut at End

Please Note: Image above depicts settings for a 101mmx62mm Badge Pass template.
  10. Select Apply and then OK
  11. To check that the printer is working, right-click on the Brother printer and select Printer Properties
  12. Select Print Test Page.

If the printer is installed correctly the printer should print out a test label. If it does not, recheck that the Labels are installed in the printer, also that the printer is turned on, and the USB cable is connected.

Well Done! Now you have completed the Install of the Brother Printer.

There’s one final step in activating printing, and that is to link the kiosk or the account to the installed printer. We show you how to do this across a variety of browsers and or for an iPad. Please consult the Getting Started with Printing Guide to be taken to the relevant article to your requirements.
