Set up an iPad kiosk

Learn how to set up an iPad kiosk. You'll need to add a new kiosk in MRI OnLocation, then install OnLocation Kiosk on your iPad. You need the Administrator user role to access these settings.

You will need:

  • An iPad running iPadOS 16+ - we would recommend an iPad Air 2 with WiFi + Cellular (Cellular functionality is to support areas with weak or no access to WiFi)
  • Your Apple ID for the iPad

If you are using an iPad kiosk, you need to download OnLocation Kiosk, Safari is not supported.

Step 1: Set up a new kiosk

  1. Go to Tools > Locations.
  2. Click View next to the location.
  3. Select Sign In/Out Kiosks from the left-hand menu.
  4. Click Create a New Kiosk.
  5. Complete the fields in the Settings tab. Ensure you select iPad as the kiosk device and note your login email address and password.

  6. Complete the relevant fields in the remaining tabs. Make sure you complete the Layout tab so you can customize the kiosk's color and wording and set it up as touchless.
  7. Select Save and Close.

Step 2: Install the kiosk app on your iPad

  1. On your iPad, go to the App Store and search for OnLocation Kiosk (or click this link).
  2. Download OnLocation Kiosk, then tap Continue.
  3. Open OnLocation Kiosk.
  4. Log in to the kiosk using the username and password you created while setting up the kiosk.

  5. Sign in your first visitor.

You may want to check the kiosk settings to ensure your printer and/or barcode scanner are installed correctly. To do this, tap the menu icon at the top right corner of OnLocation Kiosk.

OnLocation kiosk does not support vertical orientation due to features that don't display well in portrait mode.
